While our primary teaching method is rooted in Western classical music and notation, we believe in making music learning fun and personal.

Students get the chance to choose a favorite song to perform at recitals — even if it’s a pop song! We create custom sheet music tailored to their level, so they can enjoy learning something they love while still building strong musical foundations.

Additionally, our seasonal camps may include popular music as part of special group activities or creative projects. Can watch some of our performances in our Recital page.

At Pico Pianist School of Music, we focus on making music an enjoyable journey that inspires a lifelong love for learning. While we can set general milestones and goals, every child learns at their own pace.

Some students may complete the Foundation Course in under a year, while others may take longer — and that’s perfectly okay. What matters most is that they’re building strong fundamentals and enjoying the process every step of the way.

Having an instrument at home is essential for consistent practice and for nurturing a genuine interest in music—especially during the early months of learning.

While a full-sized piano is ideal, beginners can absolutely start with a basic 61- or 88-key keyboard. If you need guidance, I’m happy to recommend options that suit your space and budget.

To help you get started smoothly, we also have a spare keyboard available for new students to borrow temporarily until you’re ready to purchase your own.

Absolutely! It’s never too late to start learning piano — and in fact, adults often bring a unique focus, curiosity, and appreciation to their musical journey.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning after a long break, or fulfilling a lifelong dream, our adult piano lessons are thoughtfully tailored to your pace, goals, and musical interests.

Many of our adult students say learning piano has helped them relax, stay mentally sharp, and reconnect with creativity — and we love being part of that experience.

While it’s possible for young children to learn piano online, we strongly recommend in-person lessons for students under the age of 10 — especially in the early stages.

At this age, children benefit most from hands-on guidance, real-time interaction, and a physically engaging learning environment. In-person lessons help them build comfort with the instrument, stay focused, and enjoy a more enriching experience.

Once they gain some foundational skills and confidence, transitioning to online lessons can work well if needed. For students aged 10 and above (or adults), online lessons are usually very effective from the start.

Yes! New students are welcome anytime. We’ll prorate your subscription based on how many weeks are left in the teaching calendar.

Class timings are completely flexible and depend on current availability, as well as your preferred lesson format — whether online, in-studio, or in-home.

We’ll discuss your schedule and preferences during our Meet & Greet session, and work together to find a time that fits best for you or your child.

Yes, having an instrument is vital for any beginner to develop passion for learning. We can help you get one new/marketplace. We can also provide you a spare keyboard until you’re ready to buy your own instrument.
